I’m Caroline Ruth
a Christ following, semi-crunchy mother of 5 where caffeine is a must but meat is optional.
Most people venture to this section to learn a little more about the author so here it is…
My love for writing started when I was high school. Over the years I have had opportunities to write on various subjects. I have written book reviews for a small Colorado newspaper (while owning a bookstore), plus various articles for newsletters, I had a mommy couponing blog back in 2006-2008. I am always indulging in various forms of personal writing in my journals, prayers and I have even created a handful of devotionals. That is where this blog was born- from my love of writing plus my love for women who are in the “childbearing years.”
This is a space where I want to share the various aspects of living in a way that is counter-cultural. The way my family lives seems to go against the waves of this world – from homeschooling a large family of seven, bible believing Christians to striving to have a toxic-free, healthy home – I could go on and on. But if you stick around and check out my various pages and posts you will see what I mean.
I have been married since 1999 to a hardworking and compassionate man. We have learned so much about Christ together, parenting, friendship, you name it. We truly are best friends. We have four boys ranging from 14 to 4 and one sweet little girl who is two. We live in south Texas where we most recently moved to be a part of a sound, biblical church that believes the bible is a road map for a healthy church and saved Christians. The knowledge I have is not from some university or college. I am self-taught in most everything I know. I have taught my self Excel spreadsheets (not impressive, Ha!), sewing, cooking, crocheting, (I do know how to knit but I am not good at it), gardening, WordPress, a bit of Photoshop, and on and on. My reason for sharing this is not to boast in myself in any manner. But to express to you that I am not expert in most areas I post about. My ideas expressed here are only my own and you may or may not agree.
In the few areas I could call myself a knowledgeable expert in I have taken classes and can share my expertise because of experience and knowledge gained through study, research and passion. I am a certified Birth Doula through BAI. I have taken 4 semesters of midwifery academics, including the breastfeeding counseling class.
Birth is a passion of mine and you will find its own page on here specifically because I love to write and share about it.
The other area I have spent much time learning about is essential oils. I have been using them for over 10 years but became an educated, daily user of them in 2010. Many of my toxic free home recipes will have essential oils in them. I do use essential oils in all areas of my home life but I will probably only stick with sharing about the benefits they have on making a toxic free home (this is thanks to the fda :/)
She opens her mouth with wisdom,
and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.
She looks well to the ways of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.
Her children rise up and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:
“Many women have done excellently,
but you surpass them all.”
Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain,
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
Give her of the fruit of her hands,
and let her works praise her in the gates.Psalm 31:26-31
…all the days of her life. Psalm 31:12
